Faculty of Public Health (FPH) was established on September 2002.

Faculty of Public Health provides these forms of education only in Slovak language:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Bc.) in Public Health
  • Master’s degree (Mgr.) in Public Health
  • Doctoral degree (PhD.) in Public Health
  • Specialization studies in:
  • Public Health
  • Epidemiology
  • Health at Work
  • Master of Public Health
  • Health management and financing
  • Continual education

Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and PhD. studies have the daily full-time form and external form. Duration of study is 3 years for Bachelor’s degree, 2 years for Master’s degree and PhD. studies last 3 years in full-time form and 4 years in external form of study.

The faculty also organizes rigorous procedure, as well as habilitation and inauguration procedures in the field of Public Health.

The mission of the faculty is to create prerequisites for the development of public healthcare in Slovakia, both in the theoretical area and its practical application.

The goal of education and training is to prepare experts capable of solving problems of protection and support of people’s health in local, regional, state and international dimensions. In its program, the faculty combines teaching, research and service to society and shapes the personality of the university graduate in such a way that he or she is able to fulfill the current and prospective tasks of public health.

To fulfill this mission, the faculty uses cooperation with foreign universities, research institutes and recognized experts in Europe and overseas, while using modern communication technologies and creating a balance between teaching, research and service to the community.

Public health as a multidisciplinary field uses the participation of experts from medical, biological, environmental, natural science and technical disciplines. The priority of FBH is to integrate this multidisciplinary representation into teaching and research programs in order to achieve the department’s goals.

The faculty focuses on health protection and promotion, prevention, epidemiology and health management. In research, the priority is environmental health and knowledge of causal links between environmental factors and people’s health, mechanisms of their effects, tools for preventing health damage and promoting people’s health. The faculty also strives for teaching and scientific processing of the possibilities of how to influence health policy and how to manage these processes.
